Cracking – Peeling in Sheets
Localised peeling first, followed by the paint peeling off the surface entirely.
Causes
- Using a paint with low adhesion
- Thinning the paint too much
- Inadequate surface preparation, especially applying paint directly without primer
- Environmental conditions such as intense sun or strong wind causing the paint to dry too quickly
Solution
For localised cracking, clean the cracked areas with a wire brush and sand them; prime any unprimed spots. If peeling is extensive, scrape the paint off, sand, prime, and repaint with a silicone or acrylic-based paint.
