Cracking
Fine hairline or larger cracks forming in the paint film.
Causes
- Applying a rigid coating over a flexible substrate
- Moving on to a second coat before the substrate or first coat has dried
- The paint film naturally ageing and losing elasticity under temperature fluctuations
Solution
First scrape off the flexible coating on the substrate and sand the surface smooth. Prime the substrate, then repaint with a high-quality acrylic or silicone-based paint.
