Alligatoring (Coarse Cracking)
Deep, mud-like cracks forming on the surface.
Causes
- Applying paint in very thick layers
- Applying excessively thick coats to hide poor coverage
- Excess product build-up at corners and edges
Solution
Remove the paint from the surface by scraping and sanding. Choose a quality primer and paint combination. This type of cracking is far less common with quality products.
